St. John’s is an inclusive, progressive, authentic, joyful community!
As one of our ministries to the broader community, St. John’s welcomes couples of all faiths or none—along with the clergy/officiant of their choice—to celebrate their marriage at our beautiful church in Montclair, New Jersey.
Our historic stone church, with its warm 19th century natural brick and wood interior, is available for Christian weddings, Jewish weddings, interfaith weddings, same-sex weddings, non-denominational weddings, Buddhist weddings, civil unions, renewal of vows, etc. The enclosed lawn and lush gardens with towering oak trees, are the perfect romantic setting for photos before and after the ceremony.
Though many church reception spaces are rather functional, our Parish Hall is charming and well maintained. Built in 1923, it has soaring beams, wood floors, and a coffered wood ceiling in the English vernacular style ala Harry Potter. The caterer of your choice will enjoy our restaurant sized kitchen.
We have all the conveniences too: ample parking; close to downtown Montclair with hotels, restaurants, and alternate banquet facilities; and one block from the train to NYC, which is a quick 25 minutes away.

Planning Your Ceremony
St. John’s understands that each couple is unique and has their own needs and desires for their ceremony. As a result, we keep requirements to a minimum.
You may bring your own music or musicians, or employ the parish’s musical resources if you wish. This applies also to flowers: you may use your own florist or we can recommend ours.
Our Church seats 150 people. Our Parish Hall holds 150 for a stand-up reception, or 100 persons for a sit-down meal. You are welcome to use your own caterer, and your caterer is welcome to use our spacious modern kitchen.
We do not require that couples be members of this parish, though we certainly extend an invitation to join us for worship any Sunday at 10:00 if you do not have a church home. If you would like St. John’s clergy to officiate instead of your own, our Priest-in-Charge is happy to do so after discussing with you exactly what that would entail. You may email our Priest in Charge, Carrie, at [email protected].
Donations and Scheduling for Weddings at St. John’s
While we do see offering our building as part of our wedding ministry, we ask that users of our buildings & garden make a donation to share the ever-increasing expenses involved in staffing, cleaning, heating, lighting and maintenance of our buildings & grounds. For further information about donations and scheduling, please reach out to our Parish Administrator, Michelle D’Agostino Cook, at [email protected] or call at 973-746-2474.
